How do I set boundaries as an entrepreneur?

Q. Dear Ruchi, I have been an entrepreneur for nearly 5 years now and somehow, every few months, I find myself in a state of burnout and stress. And to be honest… it’s usually from taking on too much or agreeing to too many get-togethers, calls, and projects that I really don’t have the capacity for. But at the same time, I’m afraid to turn down any additional business, connections, or things that may advance my business. How do I go about setting boundaries in a professional way to protect both my finances and my well-being? I’m stuck!

A: Now THIS is a great question! Whether you’re setting boundaries emotionally, financially, at work, at home, you name it… it’s an act of strength that I think you’ll find to be one of your favorite tools in the long run. It’s so easy to get caught up in saying “yes” more than you intend and then find yourself feeling misaligned, resentful, or burnt out. (Been there! And you are definitely not alone.)

As always, at Watch Her Prosper we want to teach our clients to prioritize well-being over everything else. Because if we’re not happy and functioning at our best, we can’t do the work the world needs most. So next time you find yourself in a situation where you think “Hmmm should I say yes or no?” pause, breathe, and go over this simple mental checklist.

Ask yourself…

  • Does this bring me joy?

  • Am I excited about this?

  • Am I saying yes because of FOMO or because this is something that can positively impact me or my business?

If the answer is yes to all of the above, then go for it! If not, that may be your mind, body, and spirit’s way of saying “This doesn’t serve me”. And when in doubt, looking inward is usually the answer.

Take a beat and trust your intuition. It’s really that simple. Do what feels right. You’ve got this!

Here’s to your prosperity!
