Q: What should I do if I realize I’m not going to reach one of my financial goals this year?
A: First, don’t let an arbitrary date determine how you feel about your progress.
Take an honest look at where you started, where you are now, and what has changed along the way. Maybe you made meaningful progress but need more time. Maybe your priorities changed, or maybe the goal itself just needs to be adjusted.
Then decide what your next step should be. You might recommit to the goal with a different timeline, change what you’re working toward, or decide that another priority deserves your attention instead.
A financial goal is there to guide you. What matters is that you understand your numbers, make an intentional decision, and keep moving forward.
